Movie Line Observations

I'm currently sitting in for the midnight premiere of New Moon. You would think that every theater in the city would have a midnight showing lined up for this movie. It's an easy way to make a boatload of money really quickly. But, my theater of choice, Regal at Union Square has opted out on the party. So, my roommates and I were stuck getting tickets for the 19th street Loews theater. A small theater, which makes it tough for so many people. We're all sitting outside waiting for midnight, or whenever they open the doors to let us in. Figures of course that it's raining, and there's no cover. It's a light rain though, so it's not a big issue. I was lucky enough to get in line right in front of a window, so I have a nice window sill to sit on while I wait. Two roommates and a household friend will be going in on tonight's festivities. Did you really think I would come to a thing like this all alone? God no. I'm not that pitiful. I'll also have you all know that I'm reading Anne Rice while I wait.

I'm thinking of taking a day trip while Mike is away in LA. I'm thinking of going to Atlantic City. I've never been. Bus tickets aren't too expensive. My grandparents used to go all the time when I was little. I'd like to see what drew them there. Casinos. I know that much. I haven't taken a trip in a long time anyways, so it'd be nice to get out of the city and go somewhere other than Connecticut. A new environment. A new experience. A new place to take photos. We'll see. If I can pick up a few more shifts at the bar, I should be able to afford it. I made $150 last night.

A Quick Recap

Hello readers! I haven't posted in a while, due to a hectic schedule and going through two phones. But I'm back, with some quick updates for you.

I've moved from SharpShooter Circle Line to SharpShooter Bryant Park for a good chunk of the winter. We are doing a green screen at the ice skating rink until the end of January. So far, it's been hectic, to say the least. But we're learning as we're going, and I'm sure it won't be long until everything runs smooth as silk. At this current rate, I'm editing about 400 or more green screen photos in a 7 to 8 hour chunk of time. THAT'S A LOT. We're all still having fun though. I'm just not used to being out in the public eye. I'm used to having the trailer to swear and scream in when things overly frustrate me. Thankfully I have Jamillah to yell at me when I start cursing. I've also started bartending on the side, which is fun and good money. I also get to swear a lot and drink on the job. An all around good time.

Halloween ended up being kind of a bust. We hung out with a bunch of SharpShooter kids for a while, so that was fun. But then the sky opened up and all 2 million people who thought it'd be fun to go to the parade made the mad dash for some sort of cover. Mike and I have decided that next year, we'll be going back to Salem. I still looked cute, regardless of the tough night.

I can't get the time off of work for Thanksgiving, and I'm very upset about it. It's the first major holiday I've ever missed, and it's all because of work. Hopefully, I'll be making holiday pay. Needless to say, my time off request for Christmas is going in tomorrow when I go back to work.

Mike and I are moving to Queens! We'll be moving into Dario's pad in January. They've had a room open for a few months now, so we're grabbing it. At first, I wasn't too sure I wanted to live in that neighborhood, but after lots of thinking, we just couldn't pass it up. We'll be right off the 7 train, at the Junction Boulevard stop - an express stop! Happy days! We're already planning on moving stuff in soon.

Mike is going to LA for about a week in December to train in using the RED cameras. It's a pretty big deal. I'm really excited for him and everything he's gonna learn. I'll be in NYC, even though I wish I could be there. I'll probably be doing a lot of packing and moving.

That's pretty much it, I think. I'm gonna try to start back up with writing on a regular basis. Hopefully I won't do anything like spill coffee on my phone anytime soon.

Observations pt. 2

- the man with the pink tea and Iron Maiden shirt has now been joined by 3 women. Perhaps it is some sort of group. Not sure what they are talking about.

- I have had foreigners next to me all night. They are fast eaters/drinkers, and very chatty.

- a nice guy has sat in the empty seat to my right, but only asking me if he could sit there. He has a big beard and a fanny pack.

- they just started playing Lauryn Hill's "That Thing" on the radio. I forgot how much I love this song. Didn't it win a Grammy or something?

- I can't stop watching people and observing the things around me in here. It is very difficult to concentrate on my book. No wonder it's taking me weeks to read it.

That thing, that thing, that thing....

Coffeeshop Observations

Tonight seemed like a lovely night to spend some time in my favorite coffeeshop in the city. Esperanto Cafe is a cute little shop on MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village. The first time I ever came here, I had a cup of the hot apple cider, and I fell in love. Since that time, I've started drinking coffee, and have grown to love the flavored coffees, preferably irish creme or hazelnut, or if I'm feeling adventurous, raspberry.

Tonight is a hazelnut kind of night. It feels warmer. The raspberry is refreshing. The irish creme feels savory. Tonight is definitely a hazelnut kind of night.

One thing I love about this shop, besides the tasty coffee and the fact that Depeche Mode plays at least once per visit, is the people watching. Here are some of my observations of the night.

- When I first sit down, I pull out my book, entitled "The Power of the Witch". I see the man sitting next to me look over, and he seems to start panicking. I don't know if it's because of my book or if he's just like that. He leaves about 15 minutes after my arrival, leaving behind a $3 tip and half of his cup of tea.

- There's a couch in the center of the shop with a table in front of it. There's a family sitting on it, and it looks like the two girls are doing homework. One of them, who can't be older than 10 or 11 is reading Twilight. I'm not so sure how I feel about this. She should at least have her first literary encounter with vampires be from Anne Rice.

- A couple of foreigners walked by the window, stopped to look inside, and then came in. It was rather obvious that they were tourists because A) they have giant backpacks. B) they no sense of style. C) they looked like deer caught in the headlights when they walked in and sat next to me. D) I heard them speak and it's not english. Theory proven correct. They are cute and kissy. Maybe they're french.

- after the family at the couch leaves, one of the seats is taken by a man with a shaved head, wearing an Iron Maiden tshirt. He orders some sort of tea, and it is pink. It's silly.

- there is a middle aged man in a business suit seated at the bar. He looks out of place, and you can tell just by the way he is sitting and looking around that he feels out of place. He is watching everything the barista is doing.

- a group of vagabonds came in and sat in the back corner. They all have dreadlocks and look like they have been traveling for weeks. One girl has some pretty eye makeup design on one side of her face. One of the guys has a harmonica on one of those holders around his neck, so he can play it without holding it.

Just another night in the Village.

There are far too many people on this train for me to handle. I understand that it's 8am and you're all going to work, but give me some room to wake up. Or at least share your coffee with me.

Saw Zombieland last night. It was brilliant. Really funny. You should definitely go see it.

I also bought the first part of my Halloween costume yesterday. I got a cincher, rather than a full corset. This will show off the shirt I want to wear more. It's perfect. I was expecting to go into Trash and Vaudeville, find what I wanted and be forced to shell out over a hundred dollars for it. Thankfully, they have a sale rack. $49 and I was out of there, damned proud of my bargain shopping. I rewarded myself further by purchasing a cute hat. Good job me!

See, the problem with updating this blog from my phone is that I can't post photos. Or, at least, I don't know how to. So, I run out of things to talk about. At least if I was on my computer, I could google a cute random photo of kittens or post that Jem and the Holograms vs. Le Tigre video from youtube.

Hey! Here's some good news! Looks like the company I work for is about 99.9% going to get the contract for the Pond at Bryant Park for the winter season. I guess it's a green screen thing, and they'll be needing a tech. Guess who's gonna get moved there? Yay me! Solid work through the winter! Happy days! Let's just hope that .01% doesn't come up and bite me in the ass.

I'm crossing the bridge into Manhattan now, so while I have service, I'm gonna post this. Have a lovely day :)

Snooze

Today, a little boy with a big, brown sweatshirt fell asleep sitting next to me on the train. He used my arm to rest his head against. It was adorable.

September's Photos of the Day go up tomorrow on my Facebook and my Flickr. I don't really like posting photos on my blog yet, because I haven't figured out how to make the horizontals fit without them being cut in half. So, for now, check one of those two.
